There are a lot of mythical weapons mentioned in literature, such as King Arthur’s Excalibur or Thor’s hammer, the Mjolnir. These weapons have been assimilated to popular culture as in the case of countless King Arthur movies, as well as the recent Thor movies brought by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Another mythical weapon that isn’t mentioned much is the revered Spear of Longinus, also known by the name Lance of Destiny. Steve Sorensen Select Staffing.

The Spear of Longinus was an actual relic discovered in 1098 during the First Crusade at Antioch. The Spear of Longinus is believed to be the spear that pierced the side of Jesus Christ during the crucifixion. While the mention of the spear in the bible was very minimal, the artifact helped inspire the crusaders in their mission. Steve Sorensen Select Staffing.

The spear was discovered by Peter Bartholomew, who, at the time, was only a peasant. He claimed that St. Andrew appeared to him through many visions and told him the location of the weapon. However, not everyone believed in Peter. Steve Sorensen Select Staffing.

Bishop Adhemar of Le Puy doubted Peter’s claims as after days of countless digging in the Cathedral of St. Peter of Antioch, Peter was able to produce the lance moments after leaping in to dig.

In today’s popular culture, the Spear of Longinus has appeared in shows like the anime "Neon Genesis Evangelion," American TV series "Roar," and the Netflix show "Sabrina." Steve Sorensen Select Staffing.
